Oh hear, oh hear,
All of you come near,
I hear a whisper in my ear,
The voice says, “tear… tear…”,
My body is shaking, trembling in fear,
Is it the loud thunder?
Oh dear, oh dear,
The voice gets louder,
I rolled up my blanket and hide under,
The voice repeats, “tear… tear…”,
I shouted, “What tear?”,
There were silence and leave me to wander,
While the thunder roars, left me to ponder,
“What is this all about, I wonder?”.
#NaPoWriMo2019 Day 2: a poem that similarly resists closure by ending on a question, inviting the reader to continue the process of reading (and, in some ways, writing) the poem even after the poem ends.
